Sungai Kakap

Sungai Kakap is a region in Indonesia, West Kalimantan Province, Kubu Raya District. The transportation access there is adequate enough, but other infrastructures like for education and health are less concerned by the government. For example, when a local people get sick, they do not want to go to the health center because the service is not satisfying.

Sungai Kakap, the Main Supplier of Farming and Fishery Products for Pontianak

Sungai Kakap has become the central of farming land in Pontianak City. There are many kinds of foods which are planted there. For example, the most popular farms are coconut trees, paddy farms, and corn farms. Sungai Kakap has become the main supplier for Pontianak residents’ daily needs. In every harvesting time, farms in Sungai Kakap send their crops to Pontianak City to fulfill its people needs. Looking at this potential, the government makes programs that help farmers in farming like provision of farming tools and making seeds price lower.

Farming is not the only sector that Sungai Kakap has. Fishery is also the sector that has become the central supplier in Sungai Kakap for Pontianak City. Many high quality fishes are sent everyday to Pontianak City from Sungai Kakap to fulfill the nutrition needs of the residents. Even, Sungai Kakap has sent their fishes abroad. That is why Sungai Kakap has become the main fish producer in Pontianak. But now fishing activities are more concerned on aquaculture because the fishes that they can produce are lesser from day to day and the expensive cost of sailing accompany with the rise of fuel price. That is though because the government should help the fishermen by decreasing the cost of sailing and fuel for them to reach Sungai Kakap’s fishery full potential.

In conclusion farming is still become the strongest sector in Sungai Kakap because of the hard work from local farmers and also the support the government. Fishery is also still be the main sector in Sungai Kakap, but it is now more focused on aquaculture because of the limited fund. But we are still waiting for the government action to help the fishermen so that the full potential of Sungai Kakap’s fishery can be generated.
